Artist Statement
Katelyn Guthrie is a ceramic artist based out of Wilmington, NC. Guthrie’s primary focus is well crafted, wheel-thrown functional pottery. Motifs used in her work are commonly inspired by her surroundings, using textiles as a source of inspiration; implementing pattern and simple lines to enhance the forms of thrown vessels.
A source of enjoyment in Guthrie’s practice has been exploration of altered, or sculptural work through observations of life and historical works. Guthrie strives to improve her craft through diligence and consistency. Enjoying the small moments in the making process, feeling connected to clay, and constantly making new and varied works.
Guthrie holds a degree in Studio Art magna cum laude from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Guthrie works as a studio tech at Orange Street Pottery; teaches ceramics at the Cameron Art Museum, and DREAMS Center for Arts Education. In March 2025, Guthrie was nominated to serve as a board member on the Coastal Carolina Clay Guild as the Events Coordinator.
